The world and society that Victoria Aveline has created sounds dynamic and interesting, and yet we saw much less of it than I would have hoped. My one disappointment with Theo is that the characters did not explore the world more. Whilst there is immediate attraction between the characters, it is their flaws that keep them apart, allowing a much slower and more interesting romantic relationship to emerge. They have their own personalities, and as their own backstories are revealed they become more and more interesting.īoth main characters and their flaws, and it was by working together that they found themselves healing.

All the characters introduced in the novel are unique and clearly defined. It’s rare to find an author who does such an excellent job at writing characters: and yet Victoria Aveline excels at it. Each novel focuses on a different couple with a happily ever after ending. Thankfully there are three novels in the series at the moment. I usually prefer shorter novels, however I found myself longing for a longer novel that had a chance to explore the world more. Series SynopsisĬhoosing Theo is the first romance novel in the Clecanian series.Īt 384 pages long, Theo is slightly longer than your average novel. There is kidnapping, physical attacks and threats of rape. Some other characters in the plot however aren’t as friendly towards our hero and heroine. Theo is an alpha male and somewhat aggressive, however he never hurts Jade. There are numerous sex scenes between the characters. Sensitive TopicsĬhoosing Theo is a romance novel clearly aimed at mature readers. Furthermore there is some banter between characters, and often other characters telling the heroine to think positively with an open mind. It covers some unsettling scenes like kidnapping, however the characters tend to stay positive throughout.

Tone of the BookĬhoosing Theo has a neutral to positive tone. He’s determined to break her cover using any means necessary. Why could she possibly wan’t someone so disfigured and unlovable? She must be a spy. After years of women passing him over, he’s stunned when Jade picks him. Theo is a mercenary who prefers a life of solitude, especially after he was horribly injured and scarred. She figures she’ll play along until she can find a way back to Earth.

Unable to get home to earth, she’s forced to stay on their planet and follow their laws and customs – including choosing a husband. Jade’s saviours are an alien race known as Clecanians. Being kidnapped isn’t on anyone’s list of expectations.
